CHICAGO, Ill. – After nearly sweeping through the entire Oregon Trail Classic and NPU’s home opener last week, three Viking women’s volleyball student-athletes were honored.
Senior setter Christina Gatta was named a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week after an impressive all-around performance. Gatta had her first career triple-double in NPU’s victory over Lake Forest last Tuesday, tallying 10 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs. For the week, the 2021 All-CCIW selection averaged 7.3 digs, 6.8 assists, 1.5 kills, 0.8 service aces and 0.4 blocks over 16 sets played. Gatta is currently tied for the CCIW lead with 18 aces.
Libero Carolina Aviles and outside hitter Adriana Rodriguez were both named to the Oregon Trail Classic All-Tournament team.
Aviles totaled 67 digs, including a season-high 28 against Pacific (OR), through four matches. Aviles added an ace in each match. This season, Aviles marked four matches with 20-or-more digs.
Rodriguez, who is currently the Division III kills leader with 170 on the season, drove 65 kills at the Oregon Trail Classic. The CCIW’s opening Player of the Week added six service aces, 47 digs, and a pair of blocks to help the Vikings grab four wins.
North Park returns to its home court tomorrow, September 13, for a non-conference match against Benedictine. First serve is set for 6pm.
